Hydrogen: A Fuel for the Future
CGI Gases has been producing and distributing affordable, high-quality hydrogen since 1984 through its subsidiary, General Hydrogen Corporation. The current excitement and interest in hydrogen is a phenomenon CGI Gases has long anticipated. We believe in the potential of hydrogen to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy and have maintained an impressive 75-year record of performance in helping industrial customers adapt and grow their businesses via alternative energy solutions.
Our mission is to provide customers with high-quality gas products alongside exceptional, reliable customer service. From day-to-day deliveries to high-stakes capital projects, our difference is a responsiveness to problem-solving that accelerates our customers’ businesses.
Hydrogen (H2) is the lightest of all gases. It is colorless, odorless, tasteless, and nontoxic. It exists as a gas at atmospheric temperatures and pressures. Hydrogen is commonly mixed with argon for increased travel speed, improved color match and enhanced weld metal fluidity during welding of austenitic grades of stainless steel.
CGI Gases moves business forward
Reliable, Affordable, and High-Quality Supply Network
CGI Gases is among the largest privately held hydrogen suppliers in the U.S.. We operate as a super regional pacesetter, often competing with much larger manufacturers. CGI Gases benefits from a reputation for accelerating high-stakes projects that require world-class expertise, responsive partnership, and nimble implementation alongside excellent customer and engineering support.
The General Hydrogen Corp. Reputation
Our flagship subsidiary, General Hydrogen Corp., is a recognized, trusted partner to hundreds of customers, including energy/utility, chemical, manufacturing, and automotive companies as well as hydrogen distributors. The company distributes throughout the Northeast, Southeast, Mid-West, Mid-Atlantic and Central U.S. regions. Our customers’ projects often encompass new plant builds/expansions and B2B business development projects involving new technologies, distribution territories, and product opportunities.

Hydrogen (H2) is the most abundant element in the universe found in the air at concentrations of about 0.0001%. It is the simplest element known to exist, having only one proton and one electron.
Hydrogen rises in the atmosphere and is lighter than air. It is only found as a compound form with other elements. It is not found naturally on earth alone and must be manufactured.
H2 is odorless, tasteless, nontoxic, and almost invisible, (it burns with a pale blue flame). It is flammable and as a gas, dissipates quickly. Hydrogen becomes a liquid at a boiling of -423 F (-253 C). With the exception of helium, all other gases become solid at this temperature.
It is also a renewable and efficient source of energy. Hydrogen produces zero emissions because it combusts to produce only water. This gives it enormous potential as a gas for fuel and underscores why hydrogen receives impressive global attention as an alternative fuel.
Hydrogen can be reproduced as a by-product of a chemical process involving feedstock or other biomass. CGI Gases uses the by-product method.
